According to figures released Monday by the Ministry of Justice, 11,904 people obtained Luxembourg nationality in 2023, following naturalization, option, and recovery procedures. Among them, 4,404 lived in Brazil and 936 in the United States. Thus, from 2008 to 2023, 40,641 people applied for Luxembourg nationality, including 12,269 in Brazil and 3,797 in the United States.
For Daniel Atz, founder of LuxCitizenship, however, these figures are far from reality. “The ministry only counts adults,” argues the entrepreneur. “Moreover,” he adds, “under the Luxembourg nationality law, many are de facto Luxembourgers, who have never lost their Luxembourg nationality and are entitled to it by simply submitting a written application.”
